Yale University alumnus Ned Evans has pledged $50 million to the Yale School of Management (SOM) to name the business school’s new home, the school announced yesterday. The Foster + Partners–designed building, currently under construction, will be named the Edward P. Evans Hall in recognition of the largest pledge Yale SOM has ever received.
Evans, a private investor who made his name as chairman and chief executive of publishing house Macmillan between 1979 and 1989, graduated from Yale College in 1964.
His is not the first gift from a university alumnus who did not actually attend SOM. “Over the years, we have found many Yale College alumni for whom our mission of educating leaders for business and society has had great resonance,” Yale SOM Dean Sharon Oster said in a statement announcing the news.
“I am delighted to make this gift that will bring together the Yale School of Management on a beautiful new campus, enlarge its student body, and propel it to the highest level in the 21st century,” Evans said.
Last month, Yale SOM announced another large gift, a $10 million donation from U.S. investor Wilbur Ross. The new building’s library will carry Ross’s name.
Construction on the new 4.25-acre campus continues, and the new building will incorporate the latest in green construction materials and practices.
