Recently, we found that when voiceofgbs was searched on Google (or any other leading search engine like Yahoo! and Bing), the results shown were not exactly what you would expect from a student blog. Precisely, the actual titles on the search page were replaced by some irrelevant titles about buying some drugs (or the cached page if you open that). Again, the issue was strictly in the search results, and not observable if you visit the blog directly.
If you had visited the blog in last two days, this problem was the reason that you found the blog in maintenance mode: we were working to fix the issue. (Yes! During the exam week!) We have located and fixed the issue at our end. Not only have we taken care of the current problem, we have also taken steps to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. It may take some time for the search-engine to re-crawl the website and update their cache, but meanwhile, feel free to visit your favorite student blog, without any fear about security issues. Even in the infected state, there was no problem for the visitors (except that the cloaked titles looked very misleading!).
The threat is targeted at some of most popular blogs, and thanks to the support from our regular readers, this blog was picked up as a target this time. We are going to lose some search engine rankings because of this, but with the support from our readers, we are sure that we will be back again, at the top of the results very soon.
Thank you for reading!
