Villanova Dean Named President of Butler University

James Danko, dean of Villanova School of Business, has been named president of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, the school announced yesterday.

“Jim Danko has proven successes in areas important to the Butler community – recruitment and retention of excellent faculty, service to students, strategic planning, fundraising, consensus-building and curricular innovation,” said John Hargrove, chair of the Butler Board of Trustees, in his introduction of Danko to the school community at a campus gathering yesterday.

Danko has been business dean at Villanova since 2005, in which time he has cemented the school’s spot among the nation’s elite undergraduate business schools. The program is currently ranked seventh in Bloomberg Businessweek’s ranking of undergraduate business schools.

Butler has been in the news most recently for its success in the NCAA basketball tournament this past March. Danko sees part of his job as making people aware of the school’s other strengths. “There are a lot of things I have to do as a president, but I certainly look at being out there on the road and really letting people understand the full story of Butler and the success that it has that rises well beyond basketball,” Danko told WIBC radio in Indianapolis. “And we have to continue the basketball success as well.”

Danko replaces Dr. Bobby Fong, who is leaving Butler at the end of May to become president at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania.
