Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced earlier this month that it will offer its MBA program in a new, online format for working professionals around the world.
The new program, called MBA@UNC, is designed to offer the flexibility of distance learning with the quality and rigor of a top on-campus program, Kenan-Flagler reports. The school plans to accept applications for this online option, which will initially be limited to 50 students, beginning in July 2011.
“The new MBA@UNC program will continue our tradition of excellence based on the quality of the students, faculty and curriculum,” James W. Dean Jr., dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler, said in a statement. “What will be radically different is how we deliver the program.”
Students who apply to the UNC@MBA program must meet the same admissions criteria currently required by existing on-campus programs at Kenan-Flagler. The online courses will be designed and taught by Kenan-Flagler professors and will mirror the residential program courses in terms of rigor.
Classes will include a combination of self-paced lectures, case studies and collaborative activities that students can access at their convenience 24 hours a day, as well as live sessions scheduled to accommodate students in multiple time zones and incorporating a technology platform enabling interactive communication and real-time discussion and analysis. The program will feature three-day, face-to-face global immersions in various locations around the globe at the end of each quarter.
“High-quality teaching and learning experiences are critical to our approach, and we are ready to shatter perceptions about online education,” Douglas Shackelford, associate dean of MBA@UNC, said in a statement. 2torInc., a technology firm that collaborates with several leading higher education institutions on online degree programs, will provide the technology platform, instructional design, marketing and infrastructure support for the online program.
