Welcome to this week’s Trivia Tuesday, in which we help applicants differentiate one leading MBA program from the next by highlighting the elements that set each one apart. Today, we’re setting the spotlight on UNC / Kenan-Flagler. In particular, let’s take a look at their special program, STAR, as detailed in the Clear Admit School Guide to UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
“Student Teams Achieving Results (STAR) is a leadership initiative program that gives top MBA students the opportunity to work directly with corporations and non-profit organizations in the U.S. and abroad. Under the guidance of faculty advisors and executives from participating companies, STAR students produce market analyses and competition appraisals, as well as offer strategic advice in the form of financial analyses and risk assessments to aid their organization’s growth and profitability. MBA students may apply to participate in one of three types of projects – a Domestic STAR, a Global STAR or a Global Business Project – receiving a full semester of academic credit upon the completion of these semester-long programs.
“Domestic STAR connects teams of Kenan-Flagler MBA students with corporations and non-profit organizations located in the U.S. The majority of STAR students work with companies and service organizations based in North Carolina, as local organizations are given precedence over other client companies that are interested in the program. In the 2010-2011 academic year, 16 Domestic STAR projects were undertaken, 4 during the fall and 12 during the spring. Costs are covered jointly by Kenan-Flagler and the participating corporation or organization.”
