It’s time again for Trivia Tuesday, in which we at Clear Admit cut through the maze of information out there and show you the elements that distinguish one MBA program from the next. Today, we’ll turn our spotlight on UCLA Anderson’s Management Core.
The Management Core dominates the first-year curriculum, comprising all of Fall and Winter Quarters and half of the courseload in Spring Quarter. Anderson’s goal with this rigorous initial core is to equip students with a background in all the primary business disciplines and functions before they begin the summer internship recruiting process.
Anderson students’ most common concern with the Management Core is the extremely heavy course load required in Fall Quarter. During this first quarter, students must tackle five demanding courses – more than they will have to take at any other time during their MBA education. Spanning subjects from accounting to decision-making, the Fall Quarter demands broad and sustained functional engagement from students all season long. Some students feel that the uneven distribution of courses compounds the already challenging adjustment to business school.
However, having completed such a heavy course load in the fall, students only need to take four courses during Winter Quarter, affording them more time to pursue summer internship recruiting opportunities. Anderson is one of the only leading MBA programs to employ such a schedule, and its choice to do so demonstrates its strong orientation toward preparing students for their future careers.
