Trivia Tuesday: Kenan-Flagler’s STAR Program

Welcome to another edition of Trivia Tuesday, in which we spotlight MBA program elements which differentiate programs from their peers. Today, we’ll take a look into the Clear Admit School Guide to the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and share a few paragraphs on its STAR leadership program:

“Student Teams Achieving Results (STAR) is a leadership initiative program that gives top MBA students the opportunity to work directly with corporations and non-profit organizations in the U.S. and abroad. Under the guidance of faculty advisors and executives from participating companies, STAR students produce market analyses and competition appraisals, as well as offer strategic advice in the form of financial analyses and risk assessments to aid their organization’s growth and profitability. MBA students may apply to participate in either a Domestic Business Project or a Global Business Project, receiving a full semester of academic credit upon the completion of either semester-long program.

“The Domestic Business Project (DBP) connects teams of Kenan-Flagler MBA students with corporations and non-profit organizations located in the U.S. The majority of STAR students work with companies and service organizations based in North Carolina, as local organizations are given precedence over other client companies that are interested in the program. In the 2010-2011 academic year, between 25 and 30 STAR projects are expected to be carried out. The bulk of these will be completed during the spring semester, although the school also expects to send four STAR teams into the field in fall 2010 and three to five in summer 2011. Costs are covered jointly by Kenan-Flagler and the participating corporation or organization.

“The Global Business Project (GBP), meanwhile, is offered jointly by the Center for International Business Education and Research at Kenan-Flagler….”
