Tripod Ice Hockey

The day you arrive at Tuck you realize how many different things you can do here and how scarce is the time you have to do them in. Classes, study group, career search, networking… but also fun, of course. One important part of my Tuck experience has been the rookie ice hockey league, called Tripod. Everyone can play, or at least, try to play or even just learn ice skating… as I am doing these first games.

You might ask, what is a Spaniard doing playing ice hockey? Has he gone crazy? You might be right, but I promise it is fun. Besides, there are always crazier people than you… as some Tuckies who had never seen snow before in their own countries are now truly ice hockey players!! It is a Tuck tradition, and many students play ice hockey every year. This year, at least eighty of first year students have joined Tripod.

It all started two weeks ago, with the ice hockey equipment fair, where you can buy all the equipment you need to play from graduated students at a very affordable price. After that, we had several training sessions in which we literally learnt how to stand and not fall down. See the video posted with the “How to Fall” training!!

The competition started last Monday, and all teams have already played at least once. In each team there are some players with prior hockey experience and some who had never picked up a stick before coming to Tuck. But we all play as a team, supporting one another, reflecting the Tuck spirit. Games are late at night and are a very good way to relax and relieve stress after a hard day’s work.
