Today someone near and dear to my heart and I made our way down to Zilker. We were hoping to rent a kayak, but ended up with a canoe. This was my fault–we got a late start because I was tied up at work–but a canoe served us just as well as a kayak would have.
We paddled up to Red Bud Isle Park where we stopped and walked around (lots of dog watching to be had here!). On the way back to Zilker we were able to paddle in the shade and the water was nice and calm. It was so cool to see the turtles and fish darting around in the water. I couldn’t have asked for better company and I was really able to enjoy the afternoon. What a welcome change not to be worried about rushing off to work or school!
After returning the canoe we had dinner with margaritas at Shady Grove. It was a quintessentially Austin type of day. I can’t believe it took four years of living in this town for this day to happen, but it was worth the wait!
