Tour Guide, Shout-out, NYC Stubbornness

Happy Monday everybody! I know I know…ugh. Anyway, my weekend was eventful. On Saturday, I actually ran 10 miles. I think that was the longest distance I’ve gone since college. Luckily, my knees held up. It definitely felt good afterwards. I don’t care what anyone says, endorphins are the best high. As for Sunday, our bike ride was cancelled. Some of the team members got injured and there was also a race going on in Central Park. It was probably too crowded anyway. This actually worked out well because one of the girls I met Memorial Day weekend came to the city for a day visit. So I was sort of an impromptu tour guide. We went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art a.k.a. the Met. It was pretty cool, I enjoyed it. I haven’t been there in a while and it was kind of nostalgic. I still remember getting lost at the museum during a field trip back in grade school. My favorite exhibits were the Egyptian pyramids and the Chinese courtyard. I’m just mad I didn’t bring my camera with me. But I did take some photos with my cell phone. They came out pretty good considering it is a camera phone. Here are some for your viewing pleasure.

Afterwards we went downtown to St. Marks for some kick-ass authentic Japanese ramen with cha-siew. If you never had it before, I suggest that’s one of the first things you do when you come to NYC. Very tasty and very filling. Then we walked around the city, talking and just taking in the city vibe. It was definitely a gorgeous day to be out. At the end of the day, she said she had a wonderful time and would definitely come to visit again. She also said she’ll show me around Philly next time I’m in town. I think I might just have to take her up on that offer.

Guess who got their own blog shout-out : ) http://blog.accepted.com/acceptedcom_blog/2009/6/5/mba-admissions-the-distinguishing-debate.html
Thanks Accepted.com. Your post did make a good point. Not all of us are Naval Pilot Commanders or have climbed Mt. Everest. We are each our own individual selves and although most bschools want their students to be diverse and unique, we should just be our selves in the essays. Write about what is important to us and what defines us. Being honest in our stories will in turn naturally become its own distinctive perspective. To be otherwise would be fake and would most likely come through in the essays. Sounding too contrived is definitely something I want to avoid. And btw, it’s Xlick not XClick : )

Summer has begun, so that means classes are out. There’s not much going on Columbia’s campus much less any other school’s campus. I didn’t want to be idle, so I researched some other schools like Yale, Cornell, and Simon. After looking over their programs and each of their unique specialties, I just couldn’t connect with any of the schools. Nothing really jumped out at me and I just can’t picture myself attending classes for two years there. Simon and Cornell are both upstate. And it is cold up there! Not to mention all that lake effect snow. I still remember living in Rochester and digging out my car from 4 feet of snow at 7AM in the morning. Shivers. NYC is where I belong and I’m proud to be stubborn of the fact. I know I’m basing my judgment without visiting. But I am 99.99% certain that Columbia is the school for me. I left that last .01% out because I don’t believe that anything is certain in life. But I am comfortable with that percentage nonetheless : )

Anyway, enough blabbering. There lots of more essay editing to do.
