Yesterday, I managed some free time away from the office thanks to the wonders of my Blackberry and Citrix. This means I went grocery shopping, washed the dishes, did a load of laundry, and gave my dogs a bath. (Today, we’ve been in the office. In fact, I’m still in the office–currently waiting for counsel for the other side of the deal to turn some documents.)
But back to the dogs. Little B (who is 7 years old) lost a tooth yesterday. It was one of her mandibular lateral incisors. And it fell out with its long root fully intact. I asked the dentist in the family what would explain the loss of a tooth with a fully intact root. He suggested gum disease.
I’ve spent a lot of time and money taking care of my dogs’ teeth. They go in for a cleaning twice a year and I brush their teeth myself. But I’m afraid I haven’t done enough. It made me sad to find that tiny tooth on the floor–a symbol that Little B is getting older.
The good news is that there are plenty of soft foods for Little B to eat as she loses her teeth and that she still acts like a happy little dog. Also, a reminder not to take her for granted doesn’t hurt
