There’s nowhere I’d rather be injured

It turns out the knee-cap dislocation in my last post was more serious than initially thought – I’ve torn my ACL, PCL and MCL. In short, I have reconstructive surgery, four months on crutches, and a year or so of intensive physical therapy rehabilitation to look forward to, and I’ll never play contact sports again.

This is, of course, very disappointing news. But, in addition to making me very grateful for having a caring, supportive and encouraging wife, it has made me extremely happy that I chose to come to Tuck over other schools.

Where else could the captain of the soccer team send an email to all students and within ten minutes fill weeks on end of a rides roster to get me to and from school and hospital each day? Where else would the outpouring of support extend from people picking up my lunch each day, to offering help around campus, to giving up the most accessible seats in every class without me having to ask first?

The multitude of small, considerate gestures exemplifies the culture of this wonderful place and makes me very pleased that when I got injured, I got injured at Tuck.
