  • June: Teach LSAT classes; study for the bar exam; FREAK OUT about the bar exam
  • July: Teach LSAT classes; FREAK OUT about the bar exam; take the bar exam
  • August: Teach LSAT classes
  • September: Teach LSAT classes
  • October: Teach LSAT classes
  • November: Teach my last LSAT class; find my name on the bar exam pass list; pack up apartment; leave Austin; collect deferral stipend; make first student loan payment
  • December: Vacation in New Zealand; spend the holidays with family; move to Beach City; collect deferral stipend
  • January: First day at the firm
  • February: Leave the country to be staffed on first deal–sadly, this consists of photocopying, printing, and compiling document schedules
  • March: Experience one of the five most powerful earthquakes in the world since modern record-keeping began in 1900; return to Beach City; enroll in Japanese classes; sign up for a yoga membership
  • April: Spend most of my time wondering why I’m not getting any work; ask for work; worry about work
  • May: Ask for work; worry about work; break down my hours (backing out pro bono and international office hours) and realize that home office has only given me five hours of work in five months; meet with head of practice area to discuss same; receive apologies; hear about buckets for the first time (more on this later); get asked to relocate
It could have been worse, but this first year has fallen woefully short of expectations.
