Blog reader SM had posed a question last month about how Tuck helps develop self-awareness among students (to which I responded with the blog entry “Leadership @ Tuck”). The second part of his question was “how did self-awareness challenge you to take the path less traveled?” This blog entry is a response to that question.
What I’m about to write is entirely based on my Tuck experience thus far. What I am not sure is whether this is a path less or more traveled. If you were to ask this question to each of my classmates, you will get an answer that is unique to the individual. Each of my classmates has had an equally thrilling ride this past year and you will be amazed how fulfilling each one of those experiences is. Please refrain from making comparisons with anyone else’s experience at Tuck or any other business school for that matter since this is just my view of life. And mind you, since I am still a student, this story is very much unfolding as we speak.
I came to business school with one, and only one goal – metamorphosis. It’s like being a caterpillar that wants to fly out of the cocoon in the form of a beautiful butterfly. In doing so, I also wanted to stretch myself in ways I didn’t think I was capable of, and make these two years the best two years of my life. Business school is one of those rare opportunities in life where you can literally do whatever you want in the two years. And so, I’m trying to live an entire lifetime in these two years because I don’t want to look back a few years from now and say “I wish I had done that at Tuck.” I think that about sums up everything I was shooting for.
