The Partner Perspective on Second Year

It’s true what they promise you – being a second-year Tuck Partner is much better. I remember all the second-year Partners last year seemed so relaxed, so calm and they seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Now I’m in on the secret and I’ll swear by their words, too. It’s much easier this year.

First of all, I think second-year students have it better (see Will’s post below), which means I get to see my husband a lot more often and we can do things that seemed unfathomable last year! We have time to watch college football, read a good book on our porch and go to long, leisurely brewpub lunches with a group of good friends. An aside: normally this list would include hiking, biking and practicing our (non-existent) kayaking skillz but my dear husband tore his ACL and is now in a hip-to-ankle knee brace and crutches. A lesson to future Tuckies: you may like to ski/play hockey/play squash, and you may be unbelievably competitive, but you are not 22 anymore!

Another great thing about being a second-year Partner is that I have a group of friends already established. I know which clubs have the best events and I know when it’s okay to skip out on something that doesn’t fit in my schedule. There’s a steep learning curve, but once you’ve gotten through it, there’s so much to enjoy while you’re here.

The tough part is that now I’ve got it all figured out and there’s only nine months left to soak it all in…
