Survived the Week

My week started with a policy memo deadline. The assignment was a five paged, single spaced exploration of methods that could be used by a particular company to shape policy with regards to a particular issue. (So open-ended that I spent more time deciding what I would write about than actually researching and writing.) I wrote about the Credit CARD Act of 2009, with a focus on the provisions of the act pertaining to student borrowers. Certain aspects of the preparation of the memo had me in familiar territory: I read the entire statute and spent a lot of time reviewing the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve’s interim and proposed final rules. Other aspects of preparation were a bit of a stretch. It seems to be that I’ve retained very little from the public policy coursework I completed while an undergrad.

The next day I taught class and interviewed for a job. Class went well. The interview did not. It all started when my hairdryer died as I was getting ready in the morning. Nothing like a frizzy, half straight, and half curly head of hair to make a great first impression! It turns out that I need not have worried. Thanks to a rain storm I received a thorough soaking that left me looking like a drowned rat by the time I appeared for my interview. As you can see, I was off my game before the interview even began.

On Wednesday, I turned in a problem set, participated in a simulation, gave a presentation, and listened to a presentation. I was exhausted by the time that I got to the presentation by Adam Dell, a guest of my venture capital professor, but I’m happy I made it. Not only did I get a preview of Professor Dell’s teaching style (I’m trying to get into his class this spring) but I also had the pleasure of meeting Metal, a fellow McCombs blogger, for the very first time!

Since then I have been catching up on sleep and gearing up for the Corporations midterm that is scheduled for this upcoming Monday.
