Still Waiting on a Grade

All of my grades have been posted except for one: my writing seminar grade. And although there is little reason to believe the grade will come in low, I really can’t bring myself to celebrate until that last 3 credit class is (officially) complete and my job offer’s gpa requirement has been met.

The business and law schools had their graduation ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, respectively. I didn’t walk in either ceremony. My dad, who is a perinatologist in an underserved area, doesn’t have anyone to cover his call so he wouldn’t have been able to attend. I decided that I would delay the family celebration until everyone can take part. I’m thinking that Thanksgiving will be an excellent time–all of the family will be together and I should have my bar exam results by that time.

So instead of sweating it out in graduation robes or a suit this weekend, I am taking it easy and having some fun. I’ve taken some naps, tutored some LSAT students, eaten flautas at Doc’s (one of my favorite meals in Austin), solved my housing crisis, and shopped at the Round Rock outlets for the very first time. It will be a few months before I can shop guilt-free, but I’ve noticed lately that a lot of my wardrobe basics have become shabby beyond repair after four years of graduate school. I’m not a very experienced outlet mall shopper, but I was delighted to realize that a lot of the stores were offering additional, deep discounts in connection with the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. This lucky coincidence allowed me to pick up more than I would have thought possible while staying within my budget.

My bar exam prep course starts on Monday. The first week will focus on multi-state subjects, one of which I have never studied before (I’m looking at you, Evidence). I’ll be in class from 9am to 3:30pm Monday through Saturday. At this point, I’m not sure how much studying I should be doing in the evenings, but I’ll figure that out soon.
