Cameron Steese: Hi Pat! Thank you for meeting with me! I understand that the Allwin Initiative is celebrating its 10th Anniversary!
Pat Palmiotto: Thank you! We are thrilled to celebrate the Allwin Initiative’s ten years!
Cameron: Could you go into a little more detail about the Allwin Initiative and its mission?
Pat: Certainly! The Allwin Initiative for Corporate Citizenship ensures that issues at the intersection of business and society play a key role in the Tuck MBA experience so that every student graduates with a deep, intellectual understanding of the role of business in society,
a strong appreciation for principled, ethical behavior and a keen desire to work for a better world.
Cameron: What kind of services to you provide to Tuck Students?
Pat: We provide students with the opportunity to develop perspective. Students learn through direct experience as well as courses and academic credit for projects. They also are given the opportunity to make an impact locally and globally. Students may also receive financial support for internships and jobs.
Cameron: How does the Allwin Initiative work to bring awareness to complex issues surrounding business and society?
Pat: There are several programs and opportunities where students can learn about the relationship between best business practices and society. The Allwin Initiative hosts visitors, organizes the Business and Society Conference, and holds Case Competitions. There is also a required Ethics and Social Responsibility Course and Independent study opportunities. This past year a team of students, led by Professor Anant Sundaram and myself attended COP15, the United Nations hosted climate change negotiations held in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was a wonderful experience.
Cameron: Could you give me a few examples of the visiting executives the Allwin Initiative has brought to campus?
Pat: The following guests have been hosted by Allwin and have interviewed, led small discussions and even took students to small group dinners!
