So when I got into Tuck, by far the most frequently asked question I received was, “Where is Dartmouth?” Now that I’ve directed my friends and family to New Hampshire wikipedia page and Hanover Google map, I’m often asked, “So what is there to do in Hanover?”
So for all the prospective students and my family, I give you a list of some of the events that were taking place in the Upper Valley in the month of October.
First week of October — Ah yes, nothing really beats the first fresh days of the glorious fall in Hanover. When fall rolls around the corner, there is no other place as gorgeous as Tuck. It also happened to be when we finished our first term, Fall A, so my life, too was glorious.
Fri, 10/2 One final down and two more to go. Celebration started immediately for some. For those with children, Farmland of Terror (a half mile walk of terror through a haunted cornfield, wagon rides, and many haunted town buildings to explore) was a wonderful activity to round out the week.
Sat, 10/3 Killington Brew Fest took place. It was a spectacular day to be at Killington, tasting all the locally brewed beers. If that was not enough, a round of Round Robins (where a group of 1st years would make rounds visiting, playing games, and having a good ol’ time at various 2nd year students’ homes) began. Nope, this isn’t the end. This all cumulnated with a Mexican (Latin) Party, and I’m sure no explanation is necessary.
Sat, 10/4 Of course, Sundays were created for us to be lazy. So what better way to relax than to take Fly Casting lessons or go to the near by Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival?
Wed, 10/7-Sat, 10/10 Fall Break for the first years. I wasn’t out of town for a wedding so I can’t really tell you what was going on in Hanover… But I know for sure that the second years missed us and I sure missed out of some Canadian Thanksgiving dinners hosted by the second years.
Sun, 10/11 More New England fall events & activites: Applefest and Craft Show (largest Apple festival in VT) and Harpoon Octoberfest…
Mon, 10/12 Fall B Started. I still don’t know what has hit me. Fall B makes Fall A look like a breeze.
Sat, 10/17 Diwali Festival at Dartmouth. What a wonderful occasion for the entire Dartmouth community? A wonderful service, beautiful candle-lighting ceremony, delicious home-cooked Indian food, and celebration throughout the night. My mother visited this weekend and fell in love with Hanover and my weekend was perfect.
Fri, 10/23- Sun, 10/25 Dartmouth Homecoming Weekend. Again, what another wonderful weekend for the entire Dartmouth community? Dartmouth football victory, crazy big bon fire, and excited family, friends, and alums in town — need I say more? Ah yes, in fact the 8th Annula French MBA at Tuck took place on the same weekend. Exceptional speakers, discussions and networking… Quelle merveille!
Sun, 10/25 – A day of rest, need to catching-up on homework day.
Week of the Halloween – we started the party a bit early with a fantastic Halloween Party on Thursday. The Halloween spirit continued well into Friday with several Halloween parties taking place throoughout Hanover. I must say that my all-time favorite was the Halloween party we hosted for Tiny Tuckies (children of our classmates, staff, and faculty) on Friday. The Tiny Tuckies were the cutest little things dressed in oversized and overstuff costumes!! Ahh! They brought so much joy to Tuck. Oh but the grown-ups got serious and the entire school dressed-to-impress for the fall formal, James Bond style.
I forget how many activites happen around Tuck each and every week, from school work and recruiting events to weekday social activites and weekend funs. I hope this gives you an idea of some of the (non-academic, non-weekday) activites that goes around in Hanover… Rest assure, you won’t have time to be bored at Tuck.
