According to reports released last week, some employers have started using [info:'gmat-score' GMAT scores] when evaluating candidate job potential; and in reponse to this move by employers, some school are encouraging certain students to retake the exam in hopes of boosting their score, and in turn, their prospects of being hired.
Suprised to hear this? You should be. Requiring a candidates GMAT score as a condition of employement is listed as an inappropriate use by the Graduate Management Admissions Council, owners of the GMAT. Judy Phair, vice president for communications of GMAC, said that the council has reiterated multiple times that the GMAT is designed as an assessment tool in the admissions process and not for other purposes. However, she added, if business schools help companies use the test in other ways, GMAC can’t prevent them from doing so.
