Had the weirdest dream last night. For some reason, I was sentenced to prison for a year. And all I could think about was how is this going to affect my BSchool plans? Sad I know. On the bright side, a year in incarceration would definitely make me look unique. Who else can say they are an ex-convict in their essays? For sure an experience to differentiate oneself to AdCom. Something to think about…

My back is aching this morning. Our cycling team had our first practice yesterday at Central Park. Although only three people showed up, including me, it was still a practice nonetheless. The other two guys were the hardcore members of our group. They were decked out in biking gear, making them look like professional cyclists. As for me, I had a t-shirt and basketball shorts on. Very aerodynamic. Anyway, while they circled around the park eight times, I managed to only do a quarter of that. Yes, only 2 laps which is about 14 miles. The hills were what killed me. To illustrate how sad the day was for me, at one point I was struggling on a uphill, pedaling as hard as I can, my heart going a million beats a minute, while one of the guys rode beside me with ease, encouraging me on. He was passing me! What’s even more pathetic is that he is nearly twice my age. All in all, I did about 20 miles for the day.

Good news! I received an answer back from my alma mate about essay review services. My school referred me to a lady in the Alumni Relations department who does these types of services. I gave her a call and she said she would be willing to take a look at my essays. I sent them to her as soon as I got off the phone. This is a definitely bonus. Especially since it’s free. And she even responded back with feedback the very same week. This is what she wrote…

“Overall, I think you did a great job with your 3 essays…I have very few suggestions (I marked a couple of small things in red). You seemed to answer their questions…I think the guidance you received from others helped. Good job and Good Luck with getting in!!”

Her comments, although few, did help. After looking them over, I did feel like something was lacking in essay 3. Will probably work on it some more this week. These word limits do put a hamper on what I want to get across. Anyway, I appreciate her help and now this puts the number of people who have read my essays at five so far. Only a dozen or so more to go.

Also happen to noticed that Columbia has released its 2010 application deadlines. As expected Early Decision review period begins August 12, 2009. I’m expecting it to be available late July or early August. Click here for the link to the deadline schedule
