In a recent post to her Director’s Blog, Harvard Business School (HBS) Admissions Director Dee Leopold shared that she’s been spending time over the past few weeks answering the office’s main phone line and responding to the questions that come into the general admissions mailbox. Sounding only slightly annoyed, she decided to devote a post to answering the questions that she’s heard over and over again.
“I know that many of you who read my updates here fall into the ‘connoisseur’ category of b-school shoppers, therefore this post may be way too basic for you so please move on,” Leopold wrote. “These are the questions that truly are ‘frequently asked’ and deserve BOLD PRINT,” she added.
Here’s the information she covered:
• The HBS MBA program is a 2-year, full-time program in Boston. HBS does not offer any part-time or online programs.
• HBS does not have an Executive MBA (EMBA).
• All applicants must take the GMAT or GRE before submitting an application. There are no exceptions to this policy.
• HBS will not accept any transfer credit for work done in other MBA programs.
• HBS does have a loan program for international students that does not require a U.S. co-signer.
• Visitors to campus are welcome over the summer, and information sessions are offered on Mondays and Fridays at 1 p.m. Classes are not in session during this time and individual meetings with the Admissions Committee cannot be arranged over the summer.
Prospective applicants are welcome to contact the HBS Admissions Office with questions at (617) 495-6128. But a word to the wise: To be considered a “connoisseur” business school shopper, you’d do well to avoid asking about the information covered above.
