On Tuesday night, the power to my building cut out in the middle of my online class, killing my internet connection. I raced to the office while my TA covered for me. Thanks to my awesome teammate, the disruption wasn’t much of a disruption. A student can forgive when that type of thing happens once.
But how about twice?
Against all odds, tonight’s electrical storm created an ill-timed surge that required me to reboot my modem in the middle of class. Again, TA saved the day, but this situation is ridiculous! The students aren’t losing teaching time because the TA picks up where I leave off, but it’s unprofessional. And it’s bound to irritate students. And my job security depends entirely on student feedback.
What can I do to solve this problem? Complaining to Austin Energy and my complex managers isn’t likely to guarantee a change. I’m thinking a battery back up is in order. Do you have a battery back up system? What brand? Would you recommend it?
