Perspectives from, and of, India

On Monday, we have a distinguished panel that will be speaking at Tuck about India and the discussion is going to give an interesting perspective on how companies are leveraging global partnerships in the current financial crisis.

Moderated by Prof. Alva Taylor (whatever you do, don’t miss his course Strategic Management of Innovation – it’s a must-take course for anyone who wants to think innovatively about innovation! – but I digress), the panel includes Shaji Farooq, VP and Head of Banking and Capital Markets, Infosys Technologies; David Spencer, VP North America Operations; and, Manish Vyas, VP and Principal Account Executive, Tech Mahindra.

The discussion should be very interesting and will give us an on-the-ground perspective of how things are taking shape in the developing world. Of course, I do expect questions to be raised about the recent talk on raising taxes for US companies that outsource their non-core business processes, and how that impacts the IT/BPO firms in India and elsewhere. There are office hours and a lunch scheduled with the speakers during which selected students will be able to hear from these speakers on a one-on-one basis and ask more in-depth questions. The South Asia Club has been working feverishly over the last few weeks to put it all together.

The event is expected to attract quite a crowd and everyone is hoping to hear from the speakers about what the prognosis is for the global economy as seen from a developing country like India. This is especially relevant for those of us who are pursuing internships in India over the summer as well as those of us who are intent on going back to India after MBA.

Looking forward to the discussion!
