Wow. It seems like I haven’t posted a blog in forever. Oh wait, I haven’t. In the midst of Fall B, I often forgot to eat breakfast / lunch, so cut me some slack. In any case, as I’m sure many of you have heard, we have a Fall A and Fall B term schedule. One of the classes we take is called “Personal Leadership,” which focuses on how to develop ourselves as a leader within the context of Tuck and also our future careers.
Tuck places a heavy emphasis on developing global leaders- I definitely felt the affect of that mandate in PL. It really taught me personally some of the things I need to work on to enhance my ability to lead my peers, subordinates, and those above me. For example, we took a number of surveys and also solicited feedback from other people about our leadership styles. Some of the feedback was actually spot on with what I thought I needed to do. Having an outside perspective is imperative to help me understand what works and what doesn’t work as a leader.
I also think one of the most helpful aspects is the feedback my classmates give. Within my breakout group of 6 students, they have been instrumental as I continue to do a “deep-dive” on my own leadership style, and what will work best given my current strengths and weaknesses.
Tuck just doesn’t talk about creating leaders, they act on it as well.
