Part-Time Earnings

As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been working part-time this semester. Because I’m trying to do my best in school, my work schedule has been seriously scaled back as compared to the work hours I’ve put in during previous semesters.

Since I have often been asked how much a law student might expect to be able to make part-time during the semester, I’m just going to come out with it. During the fall semester, I made $3,891.38 (pre-tax). Of course, the amount earned during the semester depends on the individual. How many hours are you willing to work? What is your pay rate?

For prospective law or MBA students trying to guesstimate their own earning potential, I’ll share that this number represents the absolute (and rather pathetic) low end of my term-time earnings. This is a result of the fact that, this semester, I worked the fewest hours at the lowest pay rate of any semester that I’ve been in grad school.
