Oxford University’s Saïd Business School Students Complete Unique Strategic Consulting Projects

A recent edition of the Saïd News offered an inside look at the Strategic Consulting Project (SCP), a unique component of the MBA program at Oxford University’s Saïd School of Business. Each year at the culmination of the MBA program, groups of Saïd students work in small teams at a range of sponsoring organizations, putting into practice  in real-world settings many of the skills they have acquired in class.

“The Strategic Consulting Project represents the culmination of the MBA programme, presenting students with the opportunity to put into practice all they have learnt over the year at Oxford,” Stephan Chambers, director of the MBA program, told the News. “The projects have developed an incredible reputation for excellence and are a very important way in which we partner with the corporate community,” Chambers added.

As part of the most recent round of SCPs, Saïd students worked with an array of different organizations on projects of varying scopes. For example, four Oxford MBAs this year worked to help boutique family-based private equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw work toward its goal of doubling in size to become a market leading investment house. Another team of students worked with the National Football League to help identify and evaluate new markets for expansion. And a third student team conduct a feasibility study for a major microfinance initiative for rural women in sub-Saharan Africa.

Still other student teams led educational projects in Japan, worked to conserve wildlife in Kenya by addressing issues of overgrazing and poor rangeland management, and developed a business plan for an entrepreneurship incubator in Ghana, the Said News reports.

The SCPs last for eight weeks and take place in July and August each year. To learn more about Saïd’s Strategic Consultancy Projects, click here
