Over 100 Tuckies Have An SGD!!!

Do you have an SGD, that is, do you have plans to attend a Small Group Dinner? Last week, over 100 Tuckies participated in an SGD, a new initiative at Tuck.

At the beginning of the fall term, a handful of students got together to brainstorm ideas on how to further integrate the closely knit Tuck community. While Tuck’s academic, professional, and social activities naturally bring students together, a few individuals recognized a demand for additional ways to get to know their fellow Tuckies. After meeting with and gaining overwhelming support from the administration, the team decided the best way to achieve their goal was through an initiative aptly named Small Group Dinners.

The initiative is open to all Tuckies; students volunteer to either host a meal at their home or attend as a guest and bring a side dish. The parties are randomly arranged, bringing together students from both years, bridging different academic sections, nationalities, living arrangements, career aspirations, and social circles, among other things.

So far, their have been two very successful rounds of SGDs. The first SGD featured six Tuckies opening their homes to host almost 50 students for a home cooked meal right before the holidays. The second SGD was last week, and featured eleven Tuckies hosting over 100 of their fellow classmates. The next SGD is slated for early in the spring term, and may include faculty attendance. Overall SGDs are gaining momentum in both quantity and quality, with anecdotal feedback such as “these dinners are an example of what makes Tuck so special.”

I could not agree more.

To the prospective and admitted students of the Tuck Class of 2012, I hope you join us next year, and if you do, I look forward to meeting you at an SGD.
