So today was the big day. I’ve been prepping for weeks for this day: my NYU interview. I would like to start off by saying that I haven’t been feeling too good the past few days. All the painkillers and antibiotics I have been taking after the surgery have made me nauseated. So this entry might not be as up to par.
Anyway, I sucked it up and went to NYU – determined. I cabbed over and arrived on campus at 11:30. My lunch with a student was at 12 and the interview was at 1:30. After slowly limping into the building and picked up my customized folder and Stern t-shirt, I sat around waiting until the lunch. I couldn’t help overhearing some of the current students who were talking about their trips during the break. It was kind of interesting to hear some of the places they went to.
My lunch student and I headed over to this place called the Half-Pint, which seems like the It place to go to for lunch since everyone else was also having their student lunch there. My guy was pretty cool. We talked about Stern, clubs, his experience, and just student life in general. It is definitely the perfect way to warm up and relax for the interview after. His advice to me was to just be personable and confident. Consider it taken! An hour later, we headed back to the admissions office. He gave me his email contact and I’ll definitely have to look him up again.
At 1:30, my interviewer brought me into her office. Of course, she started out by asking about my foot. I explained what happened and the conversation turned briefly to cycling and bike trails in the city. Then we got down to the business at hand. Here’s a run-down of some of the questions (those that I can remember).

How will you impact the Stern community?
What skills do you need to possess for your field?
Why did you pick your college?
Career progression?
What do you like and dislike about your current job?
How will you make your decision if you get accepted into all the business schools you applied to?

Afterwards, it was my chance to ask questions. I asked about certain specific things like the Summer Start Program and the student investment fund. She wrapped up by detailing the next step after the interview. She said I’ll hear back within 2-3 weeks, although I’ve heard some people hear back sooner than that. All in all, it lasted about half an hour. So my take on how it went? I actually thought it was pretty good. I felt a good vibe from her and through-out the interview, I really tried to show enthusiasm for NYU. It wasn’t a perfect interview and there were questions that I could’ve answered better, but I think I got across to her that NYU is The school for me. It may be the drugs talking and I may be jinxing myself again by saying this, but I do feel good about the interview coming out. My advice to those who have yet to interview is to be yourself and smile. Definitely smile! What it all comes down to is simply to get the interviewer to like you.
