Even though I consider myself a proud Proud PROUD New Yorker (yes, that proud!), I sometimes forget how lucky I am to have grown up and be still living in this great city. But every now and then, this girl has a way of reminding me just how amazing she can be. Where else can you go around the corner and get a piping hot falafel for $4? Just the other morning, I fell asleep (I had a rough night) on the subway on my way to work. And as I was about to miss my stop, this nice old lady tapped me on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, I think this is your stop.” I was so shock than I forgot to thank her as I rushed out the closing train doors. How did she know? Does it matter? Now I’ve been keeping an eye out for her every morning so I can thank her properly. This is exactly the reason why I want to pursue my MBA in New York City. Not only is she the greatest city the world, but also her people are what make her home. Anyway, enough of the mushy stuff. Let’s continue on with the application.
If you couldn’t tell by now, I’m a planner. I like my information in advance so that I can anticipate and prepare for what’s to come. That being said, I want to take some time to go over my BSchool strategy. Mind you it’s a risky one. But I’ve given this a lot of thought and believe it works out best for me. I’ve decided on applying only to Columbia and NYU, specifically CBS’s Early Decision in August and NYU’s round 1 in November. That leaves roughly a 3 month gap in between applications. If everything goes according to plan, I would be one of the first ones to submit to Columbia in August, thereby leaving me 3 months to work on my NYU application. I think that that will be sufficient time since I’ll have the central themes of my goals and essays already in place. I understand that each school has their own unique essays. I’ll just have to tailor and tweak my themes around them. And besides, I’ve already started on NYU’s essay 3, which is a creative essay. Like Hannibal from the A-Team always says, “I love it when a plan comes together.”
As for the essays, they are coming along. I’m getting a number of people to read them to get different perspectives. Generally, everyone has provided constructive and useful feedback. One thing I noticed though is that girls are usually more critical, which is a good thing. Not sure if it’s because of gender or what, but from this observation, I think I might try to get more of my girl friends to take a look. The advantage is that I have time on my side. CBS’s Early Decision won’t be till August, so that means I have roughly 4 months to hammer out the details. Let’s just hope the essay questions don’t change.
One more thing. On Facebook, Columbia posted photos from its open house for the admitted class of ’09. The students all seem like a good-looking and smart bunch of people. I cant’ wait to apply in August!
