News Hour – II

Please read Part I below before reading this post.

Dan accepted the invitation and visited Tuck last week. During his chat, he went beyond simply talking about Haiti and took time to give us advice about entrepreneurship in general, the challenges he faced when he quit his private equity job, and the leap of faith he took in order to start the search and rescue firm which is now a major player in that niche. He also shared with us the details on some of the missions his firm has taken up over the years including in Haiti, the Himalayas, Mongolia, South America, and Africa. There were some very insightful questions raised by the audience which made for an excellent exchange of ideas. Dan also took advantage of his visit to Tuck to meet up with a couple of professors in addition to having office hours with interested students. All in all, it was a win-win for everyone.

Next week, we’ll be hosting the last News Hour program for the academic year – the last one I’ll be organizing as a student. The talk will be about the Greek debt crisis and its potential ramifications on the EU and the rest of the world. Dean Slaughter – who teaches Global Economics for Managers, and Prof. Nancy Marion from Dartmouth College, a world-leading expert on international finance and the IMF, have both agreed to be on the panel.

We’re excited to be hosting them and are thankful that these two experts have set aside their valuable time to share with the community, their perspectives on this important issue which has engulfed the world markets like wildfire over the last few days. I am looking forward to what promises to be a very informative and thought-provoking session.

You know, it’s true what they say: “if you love what you do, you won’t feel stressed out – in fact, you will enjoy every moment you spend doing it.” All said and done, I’m sure, a few years down the lane, when I look back at my time at Tuck, this blog and News Hour will stand out as things I’ve really enjoyed contributing to, among the myriad things I’ve done at Tuck.

I’m going to really miss these amazingly enriching experiences!
