There are a couple of things I’ve immensely enjoyed doing over the past two years at Tuck. One, of course, is this blog. I have derived great pleasure in sharing my experiences with rest of the world, and answering questions from far and wide. There is a certain rapport I feel with this blog’s readers. Over these two years, the numerous conversations I’ve had with prospective students and admitted students – who have reached out to me having read this blog – have taken off as if two long-lost friends suddenly got in touch with each other! This blog has been a great platform that has allowed me to interact with so many of you, who have been central to making this a fantastic experience for me. Thank you!
The second opportunity that I’ve cherished as much as I’ve had fun contributing to this blog, is running the News Hour program. News Hour, for those of you who are not familiar with it, is an opportunity for the Tuck community come together informally and have a conversation on current events in the world – things we don’t necessarily get to discuss in class due to syllabus and time constraints. News Hour itself is a two-year-old idea and has become progressively institutionalized in the recent past. There’s a lot more recognition school-wide now for this program, and there have been instances where faculty have reached out to take advantage of this platform as a means to discuss topics of interest.
News Hour is an hour-long session, typically held during the lunch hour, with a panel of speakers discussing current affairs. Panels on credit crisis have, in the past, attracted a lot of attention – and understandably so – with a 200-seat room filling to capacity. Other recent News Hour sessions have included an analysis of Tiger Woods’ golf prowess and what that means for the competition, a session on US Energy policy, a session on Super Bowl ads analysis… the list goes on.
The regular reader might remember an earlier post on how a firm that was founded by a Tuck alum has got involved in rescue efforts in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. I had the opportunity to talk to Dan Richards, T’03 – CEO of Global Rescue – about his team’s experiences in Haiti. At the end of the phone call, I extended an invitation to him to visit Tuck and share his experiences in Haiti with the community under the auspices of News Hour. (Continue to Part II above)
