A proposal for a law school at SUNY Binghamton is going forward, New York Lawyer reports. However, the plan still “faces serious challenges” and the earliest for the new school to commence would be the 2017-18 academic year, if all goes well. Proposals for law schools at the private St. John Fisher College in Rochester and the SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island have been “shelved indefinitely.”
Law School deans, especially in New York, questioned the plans, wondering “whether New York’s job market could absorb as many as 1,500 more law school graduates the three new schools could produce each year.” While that remains to be seen, an upside of having a public law school in Binghamton would be its relative affordability compared to private schools, while still offering a good legal education.
