The University of Warwick in the UK has appointed Mark P. Taylor as the new dean of Warwick Business School, the school announced yesterday. Taylor will replace Howard Thomas, who left the school earlier this year to become dean of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business at the Singapore Management University.
Taylor’s credentials come from both academia and the business and policy worlds. He has held a professorship in international finance at Warwick since 1999, although for the last four years he has been on leave from Warwick and working as a Managing Director at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, where he led the European arm of the Global Market Strategies Group, a large global macro investment fund.
It is this experience in the worlds of business, regulation and academia that Taylor believes will be the hallmark of his deanship, he tells the Financial Times. “Often people think that to be business relevant you have to water down the academic worth,” he points out. “You don’t.”
Professor Taylor will take up his post at the start of the Summer Term.
