New College Resources Hit Accepted Site (and They’re Freeeeee!)

College applicants, you’ll want to take note of the following FREE resources:

  • First up is a new college admissions article, “Five Challenges in Applying to the Ivy League.” The article, written by Whitney Bruce, Accepted’s college admissions expert, provides students applying to top-ranked universities with some less-than-obvious tips. Here’s an example:

If everyone else is having the AP US History teacher write their recommendations, think about whether your recommendation from the same teacher will be substantially different from the others. I once knew a teacher who wrote about 30 recommendations each year for AP students, and honestly, almost all of them sounded a bit alike. A boilerplate recommendation may not sink your application, but you have missed an opportunity to stand out from the crowd.

That’s a good point!

  • Our other new resource is the free, on-demand webinar, Highlighting Your Strengths in the Common Application, which covers topics like creating a Common Application strategy and using an “uncommon” application voice. The webinar aired live a few weeks ago to a filled-to-capacity online audience. If you missed the webinar then you can still take advantage of Whitney’s insightful, hands-on tips by viewing or downloading the webinar at your convenience.
