When deciding which law school to attend, it’s crucial to evaluate all the necessary data, including detailed employment and salary information from each school. As reported by New York Lawyer, two Vanderbilt law students were dissatisfied with the available statistics and took matters into their own hands, creating Law School Transparency, a non-profit aimed at collecting this info from all ABA-accredited law schools. As opposed to the ABA and U.S. News, which rely on general class breakdowns, Law School Transparency would gather data on individual law grads. This way, law schools are less likely to manipulate their stats and students can learn more about the variety of jobs available.
Prospective law students would be able to access this info on Law School Transparency’s Web site, which would also allow them to compare schools. Certain info, such as names of graduates and their class ranks and GPAs, would not be included due to privacy concerns. The only hitch to this project—the schools’ compliance with releasing their data, which they will be asked to do this summer.
