My New "Home"

Since leaving Austin last week, turning in my keys, and allowing the movers to put all of my worldly possessions into storage, I have been staying with family.  And while not unusual (it was par for the course during grad school), it was unsettling not having a “home” to return to after the holiday weekend.

It’s important for me to have a place of my own: a quiet, comfortable, and safe place where my inner introvert can recharge.  And after four transitory years, I would like my place to have a sense of permanence.  To unpack a box without knowing that I’ll be repacking it in a year? Priceless.

But I’m not there yet.

Yesterday, I leased an apartment in Beach City.  It’s practical, but a step down from my Austin apartment (nonetheless I will pay more rent for this new apartment). I’ll blog more about it when I move into the place in a few weeks.  So, I’m still unsettled, but at least I’ll have a roof over my head.

For that I am thankful.
