37…48…23…1…are the numbers floating in my head as I recover from my birthday hangover! And this post captures my ramblings as I try to sort out my thoughts on the subject.
Today I turned 37. Yes, I am one of the people bringing up the class average age. I think I am the oldest woman in my class and I am happy to report there are a few men older than me. We think of ourselves as some of the spice in the pot called T’10. All I can say is, to know us is to love us and I am thrilled to be a part of this distinguished cast of characters.
I received no fewer than 58 text messages, emails and Facebook messages from my classmates wishing me a great day. Although one smart person told me I looked great for being 60, the messages were wonderful!! However they don’t match the hugs, waves and shout outs I received while walking through the buildings at Tuck today. I was a bit shocked by the attention I was receiving everywhere I went. Indeed, I was feeling like a celeb…
This is why I spent my early evening, lounging around my house without a care in the world, patiently waiting for dinner with a few friends. I expected 5 friends plus my daughter and I to be exact. Note I didn’t include the number 5 above because it was thrown out! Instead, the magic number is 23 (including my favorite 6 month old)! That’s right, when I walked into the restaurant for dinner I was greeted by 10 people, most of whom I wasn’t expecting at dinner. Then I noticed one of my other classmates from the corner of my eye and I was absolutely shocked to see another group sitting at the table next to us….party on!
It was the most unexpected thing! My favorite 3 year old (you see a theme) ran up and gave me flowers, then a card, and then a hug!!! At this point, I knew it was the real deal! I don’t know where this happens because I don’t think it has happened to me before. Pure happiness and a really good time…to think my birthday was the reason for such an extraordinary group of people to convene.
1…the number of times you have an experience like this, in a place like this…truly I count myself fortunate to be here and to be a part of this group…an ongoing gift and a great way to spend my 37th year.
