More than 400 full-time MBA programs currently accept the GRE, including top-30 programs like the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard Business School. However, there still seems to be a preference among admissions officers for applicants who take the GMAT. According to a Kaplan survey, 32 percent of schools that accept both GRE and GMAT scores regard applicants who submit GMAT scores more favorably, although 65 percent said there is no advantage in submitting one test over another. Sixty nine percent of these schools said that fewer than one in ten applicants actually submitted a GRE score in the most recent admission cycle when given the option. And, of the schools that only allow students to submit GMAT scores, 75 percent said they have no plans to accept the GRE in the future. So while the GRE is gaining more acceptance, it is still a fairly new addition to the MBA admissions process and will not be taking over any time soon.
