- ETS has released a GRE Comparison Tool for people who want to apply to business school and aren’t sure whether to take the GRE or GMAT, reports a GraduateGuide.com, “ETS tool to assist business school admissions process.” According to David G. Payne, vice president and COO at ETS, “Three out of four business schools indicate that accepting the GRE test allows their MBA programs to be more competitive.” He continues to explain that the GRE will gain increased attention after the revised edition is released in August 2011.
- A U.S. News article enumerates the ways in which their undergraduate business rankings have had a positive effect on business education. Here is reason #8: “Faculty can be the big winners in this ranking game. As a result, well-known faculty become brands themselves and often attract other star faculty while brightening the reputation of a given school.” See the article, “Undergrad Business Rankings Have Positive Effect on B-School,” for the remaining seven reasons.
- The Yale SOM community received some incredible news followed by some tragic news in the span of just a few weeks. First, on December 20, 2010 the school reported a $50 million pledge from Ned Evans ‘64 to support the construction of the business school’s new campus. The tragic news came less than two weeks later when Ned Evans died of acute myeloid leukemia. “[Evans] was very ill and in decline when he decided to make the contribution,” Yale president Richard Levin said in a subsequent Yale Daily News article. “He was making a gift while he still had time to do so.”The gift was the largest in SOM history; the new building will be named Edward P. Evans Hall.
- According to a Financial Times article, Johns Hopkins’s Carey School of Business will be launching an Executive MBA program in May. The program will include two unique projects, “Innovation for Humanity,” an overseas project focusing on building sustainable businesses in developing markets, and “Discovery to Market,” a project that will encourage students to integrate scientific discovery with commercialization.
