London Business School (LBS) this week released the results of a new report showing that the employment rate for its students jumped 10 percent this year over last, the Financial Times reports.
According to the school’s MBA Employment Report 2010, 91 percent of students found employment within three months of graduating this year, up from 81 percent in 2009.
The rosy employment figures follow quickly on the heels of the school’s strong showing in the FT’s annual ranking of European MBA programs, released December 6th. The full-time MBA program at LBS was ranked number one this year, and LBS was ranked second overall among European business schools.
“With our full-time MBA programme ranked number one in the world by the Financial Times, 2010 has been a great year for London Business School,” Fiona Sandford, LBS director of career services, told the FT. The surge in employment figures highlights an increasing demand for LBS graduates around the globe, she added.
Among the MBA Employment Report 2010’s other findings:
• Of recent graduates who have found employment, the majority (71 percent) started work with a new employer.
• About one in 10 (12 percent) went back to work with a previous employer, while 8 percent started their own business.
• Almost half (43 percent) of graduates accepted jobs overseas, a reflection of the international background of the LBS student body.
• Financial services remain the preferred choice for graduates, with more than a third (38 percent) of graduates accepting positions in this sector.
• The technology and telecommunications field was next (attracting 37 percent of graduates), followed by consulting (25 percent).
According to Sandford, 80 percent of students found their roles through the LBS community. “It’s a great achievement considering the significant impact that the global recession has had on the recruitment market in the past couple of years and a testament to our graduates, recruiters, alumni and the Career Services team,” she told the FT.
