Life after ASW

ASW was a blast. After a busy weekend during which Tuckies came together to organize myriad programs to give admitted students a glimpse into life at Tuck, it’s now back to the school work. Rather, school work was going on whenever we had a few minutes to squeeze in during the weekend because things were piling up on all of us.

First up, the model we had to build for the Operations Management class to simulate a manufacturing firm taking in orders and figuring out what would maximize profits. That was supposed to be ready by Monday morning and we were expected to play a game in class based on this model.

Next, there is the specter of the first year project. At the beginning of the quarter things were so smooth, everything hunky dory, the FYP would be a piece of cake. Well, five weeks into the quarter, things are coming due on the FYP and it’s time to get ready for the mid-term report. Many teams met on Sunday to take stock of the situation and came up with a plan of attack.

There was a negotiation we had to do in the M&A course on Monday. Over the weekend, those of us taking the course were trying to figure out valuations of our counterparty to see if we can come to a reasonable deal, come Monday. Deliverables were coming due on a number of other courses – applications of simulation, debt markets, advanced corporate finance, managerial accounting… the list goes on – and did I mention this is the season of mid-terms? We have a mid-term coming up on Thursday for Operations.

It is in the middle of all this going on in the background that Tuckies pulled together a fantastic show – a concert with our own T’09 band “Yield to Maturity,” Dutch dinners in town, hosted dinners by current students, housing tours, hikes in and around Hanover, panels with students and partners, classroom simulations with professors, Club fair, Tuck ‘Tails, diversity breakfast, Women in Business breakfast, International lunch – some of the many activities that admitted students enjoyed over the weekend.

Kudos to the ASW organizers and to everyone who worked so hard over the last few months to pull this marquee event off in such a spectacular fashion, in spite of so many pressures you had faced day in and day out on so many fronts. You are the real stars!
