Leading Chinese Business School Opens Second Campus

China European International Business School (CEIBS) has opened a second Chinese campus, doubling its capacity and re-establishing itself in the country’s capital, the Financial Times reported last week.

CEIBS, which was established as a collaboration between the European Union and China, was first set up in Beijing as the China-EC Management Institute but relocated in 1994 to Pudong on the outskirts of Shanghai. Now it will maintain its Shanghai campus and establish a new campus in Beijing.

“With campuses in both Shanghai and Beijing, CEIBS now walks on two legs,” European Union (EU) Ambassador to China Serge Abou told the FT, describing CEIBS as the “flagship” of cooperation between China and the EU. “I am a Beijinger and I am very happy to have CEIBS here at my door,” Abou added.

CEIBS is the most well-established business school in China and operates the largest executive MBA program in the world, enrolling 700 students each year. The Beijing campus, which will double the total number of classroom seats for the school, will initially focus on teaching executive education programs, the FT reported. Meanwhile, CEIBS will continue to teach its full-time MBA program in Shanghai. For more on the new CEIBS campus in Beijing, click here.

The announcement of the CEIBS expansion comes on the heels of a recent report from the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) showing unparalleled growth among Asians taking the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), most notably in China and India. The GMAC data also reveals that more GMAT test takers are sending their scores to Asian schools than ever before. For more on this story, click here.
