Law School Upperclass Schedule Posted Friday, Early Registration Starts Tomorrow

In the latter two years of the JD/MBA program at UT, you are expected to take at least one class in each program, each semester. This is probably for the best, but it is a bit of a pain in terms of logistics.

For example, the Law School’s registration process for spring semester begins tomorrow, but McCombs has yet to post a finalized schedule for the spring. It is difficult to piece together my Law School schedule without knowing what will be offered at McCombs and when. This matters because I’m trying to put together a spring course schedule that (i) includes my top pick classes, (ii) makes for a coherent academic experience, and (iii) allows enough time for me to book it from the Law School to McCombs (or vice versa) between classes.

While the different registration schedules make for an annoyance, this is not a fatal flaw of the JD/MBA program. Thankfully, McCombs posted a tentative spring schedule and there will be many opportunities to revise my course schedule. Problems only arise when I’m subject to conflicting required classes or when I’m hoping to take some of the more popular classes.

Which classes will I take during my last semester at the Law School? I only need five law credit hours to graduate. But that’s where it gets tricky. The spring registration materials released by the Law School don’t indicate how many credit hours are associated with each class (this information won’t be released until Monday, for reasons that are not clear).

Based on the credit hour values from past semesters, I think I’ll start by aiming for an Advanced Legal Writing class and Business, Law & Innovation or Bioethics.
