Law School News Round Up

Here’s the latest law school news:

  • The National Federation of the Blind has filed complaints against nine law schools for “violating the civil rights of blind and other print-disabled law school applicants,” according to PR Newswire. Applicants who choose to apply to these schools online are required to use a program through the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) Web site that is inaccessible to blind applicants. Sighted students can apply to multiple law schools at once using the system, but blind applicants can only do so with sighted assistance. These law schools are required to offer equal access to their services and programs under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The LSAC is already facing a lawsuit due to the inaccessibility of their Web site.
  • New York Lawyer reports on a new blog from the Michigan State University College of Law. The blog, with entries written by MSU law students, opens a window into law school life for prospective students, in addition to marketing and even humanizing the school. Law school blogs written by students are becoming increasingly common, and can be a good source of realism about the law school experience.
  • For another no-holds-barred perspective on law school, The Life and Adventures of a Defunct Big Law Associate blog covers a recent law grad’s disappointing start to his legal career. Included in his blog is a series “Reasons Not to Go to Law School,” now up to #46. Some reasons mentioned are the exorbitant expense, lack of BigLaw jobs, late or no retirement, unspecified salaries, useless classes, and unfulfilled goals of changing the world.
