I did my Lauder interview today, which brings me that much closer to the end of this whole MBA application process. The interview went well — again very casual and conversational. It was also enjoyable to talk with another American with significant second- and third-culture experiences; so many of my other-culture-loving friends are foreigners who have come to the US, rather than Americans who have lived for significant stretches abroad. So it was fun to share those common experiences and laugh about some of the pitfalls. (Like Americans’ utter fascination with the idea of speaking an “exotic” foreign language like Russian or Mandarin.)

This whole process has finally sold me on the idea of interviews, I have to say. I was pretty skeptical going in to the MBA application process, but my interviews have turned out to be really positive experiences. I definitely expected people to be far less candid about their programs when asked than they have been. It adds a useful dimension (for me at least) to my picture of each program to hear how a particular student or alum perceives the school.

Best of luck to everyone — I know most of us are completely in the waiting phase now. I plan to keep blogging about the non-MBA stuff I enjoy dealing with, but I imagine there won’t be much more b-school news until late December. Hope everyone hears good news going forward!
