In an effort to draw creative solutions in the areas of sustainability and customer-centric innovation, the online journal of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School has partnered with India-based IT solutions provider Wipro Technologies to conduct a global innovation tournament in 2011. The deadline for entries for this event is March 7th.
The Wipro-Knowledge@Wharton Innovation Tournament, now in its second year, is designed to solicit creative and practical ideas that will have a measurable impact on business and society. The idea for the tournament grew from a book by Wharton professors Christian Terwiesch and Karl Ulrich entitled Innovation Tournaments: Creating and Selecting Exceptional Opportunities.
“Organizations must manage tension between creativity at the level of individual ideas and a highly structured administrative discipline at the level of the overall innovation pipeline,” Terwiesch said in a statement, adding that the Wharton-Wipro tournament combines both.
The contest is open to individuals and groups from around the world, and there is no fee to enter. Innovators are invited to submit their ideas via the tournament website as a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, PDF file or Excel spreadsheet. A panel of experts will select 25 semi-finalists from around the globe, who will then be invited to submit a web-based presentation of their idea. Fifteen finalists will then be invited to present their ideas before a panel of judges on April 27, 2011, at the Wharton School in Philadelphia.
The winning entry in the Wipro-Knowledge@Wharton Innovation Tournament will receive a grand prize of $20,000. The first runner up will receive $10,000, and the second and third runners-up will each receive $5,000.
