Kellogg School of Management Celebrates International Women’s Week

Today is International Women’s Day, a day that has been recognized around the world for a century as a time to celebrate the achievements of women in society. At the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, the day marks the culmination of a week of events and activities showcasing the economic, political and academic achievements of women past, present, and future.

Kellogg hosted its second annual International Women’s Week (IWW) this year, from March 2nd through 8th, and the calendar was filled with wide-ranging events, including a leadership workshop and a number of panel discussions led by Kellogg alumnae addressing some of the challenges and opportunities facing today’ s female MBAs.

“In a business-school setting, celebrating women who have been successful in their chosen paths is even more critical,” said Sandra Ho ’11, president of the Kellogg Women’s Business Association (WBA). “While women have made great strides in business and male-dominated industries, many more are still learning how to empower themselves to achieve career success and to break the mental models (whether their own or others) that are holding them back.”

Other Kellogg clubs, including the Africa Business Club, India Business Club and Chinese Business Club, partnered with the WBA to host events for International Women’s Week.

Some highlights of the week included a leadership workshop led by nationally recognized speaker Erin Wolf on how to harness your strengths to make the greatest impact as a leader, a panel discussion led by Kellogg alumnae sharing strategies for success in a male-dominated work environment and additional alumnae speakers addressing topics ranging from the value of experiences abroad to making an impact in healthcare services.
