“Happy Fourteenth of July,” so saying, we greeted each other earlier this week at a French restaurant in SoHo. It was Bastille Day, a national holiday in France. One of my classmates, who is French, took the initiative of bringing a group of T’10s together to have dinner and catch up. We met around 8 PM at the chosen place and spent almost 3-1/2 hours chatting, catching up, and enjoying French cuisine. It was great to meet some of my friends after all these weeks.
The eight of us represented multiple industries – CPG, investment banking, pharmaceuticals, media and entertainment… In fact, a couple of my classmates just happened to be in NYC for a few days – they were here on business trips as part of their internships in Japan and UAE. They were able to take the time and join the dinner as well. We compared notes to see how things had gone for all of us during the first half of the summer internship.
Stories about how our investment banking classmates were putting in crazy hours to get their work done, discussions of the real estate market in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, issues with cross-cultural marketing – the topics were wide-ranging. It was good to see that everyone was learning a great deal and having fun at the same time. It was close to mid-night by the time we said our goodbyes and dispersed to catch some much needed sleep before another busy day.
It was also a prelude to French culture for me personally since I am going on exchange program to Paris in the fall quarter. That’s why this dinner was so timely – it was great to see everyone and spend time chatting. I’ll miss Tuck and miss seeing all my classmates when school starts in September. Oh well, let me not think of September and course work yet. Right now, the plan is to make the most of what the summer has to offer and enjoy it to the hilt!
