Jack Welch’s Online MBA is Delayed Due to Health Problems

Health problems are delaying the start of Jack Welch’s new online MBA program, according to a blog post in The Chronicle of Higher Education today. We wrote back in June about Welch’s plans to launch the Jack Welch Management Institute this fall.

Welch, former CEO at General Electric (and BusinessWeek columnist) was involved in developing the curriculum for the classes this summer, but his work was impeded when he developed a spinal infection called discitis that has had him hospitalized since early July, according to The Chronicle.

Enrollment for the classes has not yet begun, but a new start date should be announced in the next couple of weeks, according to the post.

The new online MBA program will be based around the business principles he espoused while teaching GE managers and executives and has garnered a great deal of buzz in the management education community over the last few months.

Welch has spent the last few weeks in treatment at at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and is twittering about his recovery on his twitter feed: @jack_welch.

In a Twitter post on July 24, Welch wrote:

Still in hospital but a bit better everyday. Thx for notes and prayers. Huge lift for me and @suzy_welch. Now we just have to fix Red Sox.
